Season 8 of the “American Idol” premiered on January 13, 2009. The season started with the auditions that took place at different places all over America. A number of changes were made in this season of the series. The biggest change of the series was that a fourth judge Kara DioGuardi, a record producer, singer and songwriter, was added to the judges’ panel as a regular along with three other judges, Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. In the beginning of the eighth season, the president of alternative programming for Fox, Mike Darnell, stated that this season they are going to focus more on the emotional state of the contestants. The executive producer of the series, Nigel Lythgoe, left the show in order to concentrate more on the international versions of his other show “So You Think You Can Dance”.
Apart from all this, few more changes took place, and were noticed once the season started like the Hollywood round for this season took place at the Kodak Theater and went on for two weeks. Wild card round was added to this season, which was last used in the third season and with that we got top 13 contestants for the eighth season of the series.
