‘American Idol’ is an American musical reality show that searches for vocal talent all over America. American Idol, the series, hit the screens of American television in 2002. Ever since then, the series has been a complete hit and hot favorite among the audiences. The series on a general note is a spin off of the hit British series, “Pop Idol” and follows almost the same pattern as that.
‘American Idol’ begins with auditions that are open to anyone and everyone. A huge number of music fans from all over America come to demonstrate their talent in music, out of which after much selection and rejection, only twelve boys and girls, in total, are selected, who the judges think can stand in the race of becoming America’s Idol. Once these twelve candidates are selected, they sing the songs of their choice in front of the judges. The judge’s panel consists of four judges, Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson (II), Paula Abdul and kara Dioguardi along with host Ryan Seacrest. These judges then give their point of views and judge the songs of the candidates. They also tell them their weaknesses and strengths, ultimately helping them become a better singer through their journey on the show.
At the end of every episode, whole of America is asked to vote for the candidate who they think has sung the best. Once the votes are locked in, and the people have cast their votes for their personal favorites, then it is the judges and America, who decide which one of the candidates will have to leave the show. At the end of every episode one candidate, who has performed badly and has managed to get least amount of votes is asked to leave. The procedure continues till one is chosen as the America’s Idol. At the end of the show, the person who gets the crown is awarded with a recording contract worth up to $1,000,000.
Besides this, the show is a good platform for people who have talent and confidence. It is not only that the candidate who has won gets the award but even other candidates are given awards and they are also chosen by other companies as they manage to get into the eyes of people.
The series is currently running into its eigth season. This season a number of changes have been brought in the show as the candidates are now allowed to play their own instruments. The series now have been around for seven years and the craze for the show has seemed not to decline even a little bit. And, I don’t think that it should decline because still there is lot of talent in the people of America and I think they deserve this kind of platform that American Idol is providing them with, for many more years to come.
